07 oct 2015 by art:i:curate team
On the occasion of Asia Contemporary Art Week's Field Meeting 2015, art:i:curate artist Aman Mojadidi will give a performance entitled 'The Uprooted & The Gift Givers'.
'The Uprooted & The Gift Givers' will take the form of a performative lecture based on the art installation 'Adrift', which was commissioned and first presented as part of the 12th Havana Biennale 2015, and the project 'Orange', a collection of poems written from the perspective of a Guantanamo Bay detainee. This art installation addresses issues such as migration, statelessness as well as the hope for a renewed humanity through the lens of departing Guantanamo Bay detainees. The ferry, carrying the luggage that is never unloaded, traveled between Old Havana and Casa Blanca - in English translated as 'White House'.
The Uprooted & The Gift Givers' will result in a publication including images, storytelling, poetry and ethnographic research based on the art installation 'Adrift', the performance 'The Uprooted & The Gift Givers' and the artistic project 'Orange'.
In connection with ACAW 2015's signature exhibition 'Sonic Blossom' by Lee Mingwei, co-presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 'Field Meeting Take 3: Thinking Performance' will stage a series of performances, talks and discussions. Curated by ACAW Director Leeza Ahmady and featuring over 30 keynote figures to foreground the multiplicity and critical role of performance work coming out of the context of Asia, ACAW provides an open platform for direct interaction between artists and an exclusive audience of arts professionals. With a specific focus on creative process, conceptual exchange and collaboration to advance artistic endeavors within an expanded field, 'Field Meeting 3: Thinking Performance' invites broader, more nuanced interpretations of performance work and fresh understandings of performativity in artistic production at large.
'Field Meeting 3: Thinking Performance' will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at the Hunter College between the 31st of October and the 1st of November 2015.
