Solo Exhibition Of Giuditta R. At Palazzo Monte di Pietá

Solo Exhibition Of Giuditta R. At Palazzo Monte di Pietá
Giuditta R., Shame IV, 2015, 50 x 35 cm, courtesy of the artist.

art:i:curate artist Giuditta R. presents her new series of drawings through a solo exhibition entitled 'Our Shadows will Dance' at Palazzo Monte di Pietá in Messina, Italy.

The characters represented by the artist are capable of leaving a prevailing imprint in the ”mental net” of the observer... - who are these crooked characters, what do their twisted eyes wish to dig up from the collective unconscious? - Basak Malone, curator

Giuditta R.'s drawings present a curiosity towards the ambiguous, the paradox and the dark side that defines human existence and the way these elements are captured in human expressions.

In her drawings, mysterious and eerie figures emerge from the skillful chiaroscuro hatch, where the familiarity of the subjects depicted is denied by the expressions and gestures, and sometimes from one of the most effective mechanisms of horror: the estrangement (i.e. a child whose gaze is cloaked in a sinister glare of wearing maternal shoes and accessories in a widespread game of identification, but with an incongruously sad face).

As Dr. Filippo Romano, Special Commissioner of the City of Messina, has suggested, the key to interpret the mysterious atmosphere of the works on display is to be found rather among the psycho-analytical suggestions of the works. Giuditta's drawings evoke and stimulate our attraction by leaving us in doubt and uncertainty through the mechanisms of surprise and alienation rather than providing reassuring and habitual certainties.

The exhibition will open on the 18th of December and will continue until the 3rd of January 2016.
