art:i:curate artist Niki Gulema is featured in the annual contemporary art exhibition 'ROOMS' hosted in St George Lycabettus hotel in Kolonaki, Athens.
The hotel is chosen to host this event in order to emphasise the importance of artistic presentations and the need for contemporary art practice to claim the space, be it personal, private or public. ROOMS adds an unexpected gallery use to the hotel and stands as an opportunity for artists to communicate their work to the general public.
Niki Gulema, 2015, Untitled, Oil, charcoal, spray paint on canvas, 300 × 235 cm.
Niki Gulema occupies a room of the St George Lycabettus hotel with a large painting, a selection of photographs and a projection of her digital paintings. The gestural painting of these works represent the control the artist holds and questions the visibility of movement and actions on the surface of the canvas.
Niki's paintings are fragments of reality. Only a limited sence of reality remains on the surface of the canvas. A focal point in her work consists of the space between such fragments; like silence that is only interrupted by whispers.
The show will run until February 5th, 2017.
