Focus Paris Art Scene: Constellation A Group Exhibition Of Serbian artists
23 sep 2015 by art:i:curate team
art:i:curate artist Marija Sevic participates in the group exhibition 'Constellation' held at the Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris.
This exhibition brings together the works of twelve young artists from the contemporary art scene of Serbia. Through their paintings, drawings, photographs and videos, the artists propose a polymorphic panorama of issues, challenges and hopes of a society marked by a turbulent past and present, in socio-political and economic level.
Oscillating between hope and anxiety, idealistic desires and real possibilities, collective commitment and intimate retreat, the works on display question the context of their creation. Both analytical and critical, these works are located in the intersection of memory and the possibilities of the future.
In the margins of the dominant artistic production, in an environment characterised by a lack of institutional support and the absence of a structured and sustainable contemporary art market, the artists explore alternative articulations of their artistic practices: networking, clustering and self-management. They, thus, constitute an autonomous artistic eco-system, in opposition to the competitiveness of the art market.
Conceived as an open field, with no intention to propose a framework of linear narrative, predictable and expected, 'Constellation' is an invitation to reflect on the exchange system and the new constellations of a pluralistic world. If we arrived at a common present, having lived different historical experiences, what future can we imagine on the horizon of our uncertain realities?
The exhibition is organised in collaboration with Supervizuelna, a platform for contemporary art in Belgrade, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia.
Participating artists: Ana Adamović, Ivan Grubanov, Nataša Kokić, Zolt Kovac, Marko Marković, Goran Micevski, Branislav Nikolic, Nemanja Nikolić, Nina Simonović, Saša Tkačenko, Marija Sevic, Ivan Šuletić. Curated by Svetlana Montua.
