Curated by Paul Smith & Friends
17 sep 2014 by art:i:curate team
In celebration of Frieze Art Fair 2014, art:i:curate has teamed with Paul Smith to host an innovative exhibition of work by emerging London-based artists that combines Mayfair’s deep-rooted art heritage with the digital world’s trail-blazing creative community.
This project will reflect the diversity of Paul Smith’s world and how disparate voices can come together to create one distinctive exhibition, as well as a dialogue with contemporary art and fashion. The work will be showcased at the iconic Paul Smith flagship-store in London’s Albemarle Street.
art:i:curate has invited Paul Smith and his friends to curate an exhibition with artworks produced by emerging artists from our network. The process of selecting these artworks will be documented through photographs and stories to highlight the individuals participating in the project and this non-traditional approach of curating an art show.
Having admired art since his teens, Paul Smith has been drawn to a world of colour and ideas, which is reflected in his personal and business aesthetic. With the exhibition taking place at the same time as Frieze London, a leading contemporary art fair, Paul Smith is supporting emerging artists by offering a platform to show their work within a dynamic and established context. The exhibition becomes a bespoke collection in itself, channelling Paul Smith’s love for art and collecting all things eccentric and unexpected.
The public is invited to sign up to www.articurate.net, create a profile and make a virtual selection of artworks that will potentially be exhibited as part of the project.
Since opening its doors last year, Paul Smith’s Mayfair outpost at No.11 Albemarle Street has established itself as a mainstay of the London art scene. In twelve months the gallery space has featured work from young British artist Walter Hugo and a retrospective of photography from Blitz magazine as well as presenting Carl Auböck’s modernist masterpieces and tapestries from Dovecot Studios.
The project is part of art:i:curate’s on-going initiative to give all art lovers the power to choose the art exhibited.
