art:i:curate network // meet José Manuel Ferrero
Jose Manuel Ferrero, art:i:curate member in Valencia.

Every week people from the art:i:curate network talk to us about what inspires them, what they collect, and more. Valencia-based designer, José Manuel Ferrero is a traveller who has suprised us with a large photographic archive of...his feet.

City: Valencia

Profession: Designer and creative director at estudi{H}ac

Secret profession or as a kid I wanted to be: Architect and explorer of magical worlds

AIC: How would you describe your own personal aesthetic?

JMF: Elegant with a twist of fun and honesty.

AIC: How would your friends describe your personality?

JMF: Emotional, thoughtful - restless explorer and observer.

AIC: What inspires you?

JMF: Trips that are filled with life experiences. I love opening my eyes to new cultures, discovering new textures, smells, music... and meeting enriching people. I'm always on the move and I believe that makes my perception more vital and responsive to detail.

AIC: Who's your hero?

JMF: Mr. Phileas Fogg is the figure who most influenced me - he is also my childhood hero. For me he represents discretion and poise with a spark of madness, like all good English gentleman. His British style and his passion for adventure always attracted me. I'm inspired by Mr Fogg's passion for challenges that I apply in my personal world as a designer.

AIC: Do you consider yourself a collector? If so, what do you collect?

JMF: I collect the letter "H", in every shape and form. During my travels I always find an "H" in shops, markets or elsewhere - the premise being: it has to fit in my suitcase.

AIC: What's your most precious possession?

JMF: My dwarf dachshund named Puma and my large archive of photographs of my feet in each place I travel to, whether it's for business or pleasure.

AIC: What does the term curating mean to you?

JMF: The opportunity and ability to create an unpublished selection of creators.

AIC: If you could curate an exhibition, what would it be about?

JMF: A mix of design, art, gastronomy, and photography.

AIC: How did you discover art:i:curate?

JMF: Through 'Paul Smith's World'.

AIC: How do you usually experience art?

JMF: I always look for new galleries to discover new artists.

When I go visit them I take my son Paul with me to cultivate his passion for art and design.

AIC: Tell me something about yourself - anything.

JMF: My passion for the world of design and art has become my lifestyle. Each new every day experience becomes part of my concepts and ideas to create new projects.
