CO-PRODUCER QUESTIONS // Funding a work of art or design
What does it mean to pledge?

To pledge means to commit a sum towards the Target Amount of a finished work.

If the Target Amount is successfully reached, the Co-Producers are supporting the Creator's artistic practice. In turn, when the respective work is sold, the Creator and the Co-Producers share the sale proceeds.

Additionally, the Co-Producers are co-curating our upcoming shows – we showcase funded works at events and exhibitions around the world.

How do I make a pledge?

To make a pledge, first log in to your art:i:curate account. Then, select the amount you’d like to commit and click on the Pledge button. A payment page will load, where you will be able to enter your card details and payback preference. Once you have completed your pledge, you will receive a confirmation email.

What is my share of the sale proceeds?

On the campaign page you will be able to see both, the retail price and the Target Amount raised by the Creator equal to 40% of the retail price.

If a funding campaign is successful, ownership of the work shall be split so that the Creator owns 30% of the work and the Co-Producers collectively own 70%. Accordingly, at the sale of the work, the Co-Producers will receive 70% of the retail sale price (split pro-rata as against the proportion that each Co-Producer pledged).

art:i:curate will apply a 10% (plus VAT) fee to the retail sale price and payments processors may also charge transaction fees, usually between 2-5%.

Please note that art:i:curate reserves the right to change the retail price if required.

Is there a minimum and maximum pledge amount?

The minimum pledge amount is $10 and the maximum amount is 100% of the target set. Since we do not allow for overfunding, last pledge may be set below $10 in order to reach the exact sum, as specified in the campaign.

How will I know if the work I pledged to reached its target?

You will receive an email about the outcome of the campaign at the end of its funding period or as soon as it hits its target.

Is my pledge private?

The amount you pledge is never publicly displayed. It is only visible to the Creators of the respective work. Your profile image may appear on the campaign page and link to your profile page, where others can see a list of works you pledged to.

Can I pledge anonymously?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a feature to set your profile private, but you can pledge under any account name you like that is not recognisable.

If I pledge, what kind of information does the Creator receive about me?

The Creator will see your art:i:curate account name and your pledge amount.

We don’t currently have an option to contact artists and designers on art:i:curate. However, many of the art:i:curate Creators attend our regular events, where you can get a chance to meet them in person.

CO-PRODUCER QUESTIONS // Getting rewarded
What rewards do Co-Producers get?

By pledging to a finished work, you are not only supporting the artistic practice of its Creator but also are entitled to a share of the sale proceeds once the work you pledged to is sold. Co-Producers get 70% of the net retail sale price of the work, to be split pro-rata as against the proportion that each Co-Producer pledged.

How is the retail price different from the Target Amount?

The Target Amount equals to 40% of the work's retail price, which is set by its Creator and reviewed by art:i:curate. In other words, the standard retail price of a work is 2.5 times its Target Amount.

Please note that art:i:curate reserves the right to change the retail price if required.

What are the risks of becoming a Co-Producer?

art:i:curate is, foremost, a platform to support creative practice through a global community effort.

Funding works of emerging artists and designers involves risks such as illiquidity and uncertain future value. Funding is targeted exclusively at users who understand these risks and make their own decisions to pledge.

art:i:curate does not guarantee that funded works will sell and when they will sell. We may also change the retail price at our own discretion, if required.

Who owns the work post funding?

Once the Target Amount is successfully reached, the Creator receives the funds and 70% of the ownership passes to the Co-Producers, split pro-rata as against the proportion that each Co-Producer pledged. The Creator owns the remaining 30%. When the work is sold, net sale proceeds are distributed to the Creator and Co-Producers accordingly.

art:i:curate holds the exclusivity to sell and, if necessary, modify the retail price.

Who is responsible for the work?

The Creator is responsible for keeping the work in a safe and secure place until it is sold or exhibited. The Creator agrees to carefully and suitably pack the work for shipping, unless requested otherwise by the buyer or art:i:curate.

What debit/credit cards do you support?

Currently, you can pledge with your Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card.

When is the money taken from my card?

Your card will be charged when and only if the Target Amount is reached. It usually takes 1-3 days for your bank to authorise clearance of funds.

Can I change my card details after I pledged?

Yes. You can amend your card details by clicking on "Change card details" on the work's page or in your profile under the "Works I funded" section.

Can I change the amount after I pledged?

We don’t currently have an option to change your pledge amount, but you can top up your amount by entering a new pledge for the same work during the funding period or contact us to change your pledge.

Can I cancel a pending pledge?

Your support of the Creator’s work is very much valued and helps the Creator continue their creative practice. If for any reason you must cancel your pledge, please contact us at least 48 hours before the campaign is closed and we will process the cancellation for you.

If the work I pledged to is sold, how do I get my payment?

Once the work you pledged to has been sold, you will receive an email notification.

If you have a PayPal account and would like to receive your payment via PayPal, please insert your email subscribed to your PayPal account in the Pay Back section of the Payment page. Alternatively, we will get in touch with you to coordinate payment via bank transfer or cheque.

Your payment will be sent to you within 30 days after sale.

Are payments on art:i:curate secure?

Yes. All transactions on art:i:curate are processed using Stripe, whose payments infrastructure meets and exceeds the most stringent security standards. For more information about Stripe’s secure system click here.

art:i:curate does not store your full card details. Only the last four digits and expiration date are displayed so that you know which of your cards you are using. You can delete your card details at any time in the Payment Methods section of your Account Settings.

Why was my card declined? Will you try to charge it again?

Unfortunately, credit card companies do not share with us the reasons as to why cards are declined. If your card is declined, we will get in touch with you to update your payment information and re-process your pledge. If we are unable to resolve payment issues within 7 days, your pledge will be cancelled.

CO-PRODUCER QUESTIONS // Events and exhibitions
In what cities are exhibitions organised?

Based in London and New York, we are working closely with our international network of partners, ambassadors, and contributors to organise exhibitions in cities all over the world.

If you are interested in helping us organise an exhibition or event in your city, get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!

What are art:i:curate shows like?

Our exhibitions and events happen in unconventional locations where we create non traditional experiences and bring together collectors, patrons, journalists, artists and art critics.

art:i:curate exhibitions often include funded works, works that are in their funding process, site specific installations, performances and more. We invite Co-Producers to our private events where they get a chance to talk to the artists they've supported and meet other patrons.

Will the work I pledged to be exhibited?

If the work is successfully funded, we will endeavour to include it in one of our upcoming shows. Typically, lead times between the end of funding and inclusion in an exhibition can be from six months onwards. We will make sure to let you know ahead of time.

I am not located in the city where the exhibition is taking place. How can I attend?

We always make sure to let you know well in advance and hope you can come along.

CO-PRODUCER QUESTIONS // Profile settings
What is my profile page?

Your profile page is your personal page where artists, product designers, and people from the network you follow are listed and works you pledged to or liked are saved. It is also a space you can share with others.

You can add a few lines about yourself, a profile picture, your city or a link to your website. Your profile is visible to public, is searchable and can be found on art:i:curate or via search engines. So, you shouldn’t publish anything you wouldn’t want others to see.

Please note that your profile picture may appear on the campaign page and link to your profile page. However, others will not be able to see the amount you pledged.
