Dissecting the commodification of conflict through an alternative approach to the phenomenon of war souvenirs, toys and merchandise, the piece explores the complexities of economies of war through the lense of ‘war souvenirs’. One undeniable facet of war and conflict is the economy it promotes and generates. Commodification in the Marxian sense is about how non saleable things become saleable, for example military weaponry used to inspire children’s toys and camouflage used by fashion labels. Read less
