Pigment pencil and water on mylar

137 x 91.5 cm

Jaanika Peerna addresses environmental issues that face the world through all her work, drawing, performances and sculptures, . ‘Big Melt 14‘ is part of a series of drawings where the artists uses ice and water to erode the surface of the water. She therefore references the melting and eroding as a result of global warming. Using her trademark mylar, the original marks of the pencil on the paper are transformed into drips and and smudges across the surface. This sense of the artist’s mark and movement within the work relate back to her performance piece. In particular,  ‘Glacier Elegy’ where this melting and erosion becomes an action that an audience witnesses and participates in.
