Big Melt 15, 2016

Pigment pencil and water on mylar

137 x 91.5 cm

Big Melt 15‘ is part of a series of works made by Jaanika Peerna where the artist uses water and ice on the surface to erode the drawing. This surface treatment leads to drip marks and smudges appearing, tracking this process. Like other works by the artist, the series continues her engagement with wider environmental concerns, particularly melting ice caps and rising water levels. With her usual serenity, the artist forces us to address it through contemplation and engagement with the work.
